Adriatic Cruise — Highlights and Expedition Insights

Heading out on the Adriatic Sea will allow you to hit up countries like Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Slovenia, Montenegro, Albania, and, of course, Italy. There are also a whole lot of stunning islands to explore: over 1,000, in fact. So, for a slice of culture, history, rugged natural beauty and amazing food, the Adriatic is yours.

Adriatic Cruise Highlights

  • Travel between Croatia and Montenegro, sailing past the fantastic landscape of the Dalmatian Coast.
  • Spot paradise islands as you cruise, such as Hvar Island and Mljet. But it’s not just about admiring them from afar, you’ll get to explore them on foot, too.
  • Stop off and head inland to the old Montenegrin town of Stari Bar, with a rich history and culture of Serbian, Ottoman and Venetian rule.
  • Visit Vlore, a coastal city in Montenegro with beaches, dramatic coastline, monuments, and museums.
  • Enjoy delicious Mediterranean cuisine and complimentary cocktails on board as you sail over turquoise waters.
  • Visit the jewel of the Adriatic that is Dubrovnik, with its walled old town jutting out into the sea (perfect for Game of Thrones fans).
  • Drop anchor at Split and spend some time wandering around the ancient city, including former Roman emperor Diocletian’s Palace.
  • Explore the little-known coastline of stunning Albania and head ashore to discover archaeological sites.
  • Take some time off in Corfu, a laid back island paradise with something of a party atmosphere, and wander its charming streets.

Adriatic Expedition Insights

  • There are a number of different starting points for Adriatic cruise holidays, but many of them begin in Dubrovnik, so this well-trodden city may be a good place for you to start if you’re a first-timer.
  • Be vigilant in crowded areas in cities and towns along the Adriatic Coast, as pickpockets do operate. Be careful on the beaches especially, where it is not advised you leave your belongings unattended.
  • If you want to hike when you stop off at a certain destination during your Adriatic cruise, make sure to go with a guide. They will know where they’re going and will be able to assist you if you injure yourself, for example.
  • Make sure that you have adequate travel insurance from a reputable company that will be able to cover the costs of medical bills, emergency hotel stays, and repatriation.
  • It gets scorching in this region, so be sure to keep hydrated, apply plenty of sunscreen, and avoid laying out in the sun in the hottest part of the day (early afternoon).
  • With warm air and sea temperatures in July and August, this is an excellent time to book an Adriatic cruise holiday, but since this is the most popular time of year, make sure to book well in advance to avoid disappointment.
